In 2006, Gail was one of the founders of Quick Reads, which are short, fast-paced, easy to read books written by well-known authors and household names. The idea is to encourage reluctant readers to get hooked on books. They are ideal for those who don’t have much time to read, those who have fallen out of the habit of reading, and the millions of adults in the UK with reading difficulties. Authors lined up for 2008 include Colin Jackson, Gordon Ramsay and Josephine Cox.
Since its launch in 2006, three-quarters of a million copies have been sold and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
'The ability to read is a basic right of every citizen, and the drive for literacy in schools must be carried out in partnership with the drive for literacy in adults. 2006 will see the campaigning role of World Book Day taking centre stage bringing books for emergent readers into the mainstream of our industry.'
